Lunch/Recess Lab --Projects/Themes
Pacific's Cardboard Arcade
During our first lunch lab session of the year, the students are using Caine's Arcade as inspiration to create their own cardboard arcade game. Some choose to work individually or in groups. While the students are eating lunch, they watch a short video on Caine's Arcade. From there, the students draw a design of the game they would like to make. After the design is done, they move on to choosing their base cardboard box for their game. Designing/drawing ideas out has become a very natural process for our students, especially the 4th and 5th graders.
This saves time, energy, and supplies! With our short amount of time (40 minutes) during lunch lab, the kids are incredibly efficient at "working" on their projects. They are getting used to being very thoughtful creators. What more can we ask of our young minds? |

Make it Move & 3D Pen
The students are playing with motors and batteries to see
what they can make that moves. We love the vehicles and boats the students are making but the creations made from the students own imagination, like the "happy robot" to the right, definitely puts huge smiles on our faces in more ways than one! Amazing to see the students draw out their design, plan what supplies they need, then create their project in such a short period of time during our Lunch lab visits. Never underestimate a young mind... |

Woodworking!!The students are using power drills, hammers, and their imaginations to make their woodworking project. They are thrilled to get their hands on tools and to use their creativity to embellish their projects. We love that they are learning a skill and having so much fun doing it. Play to learn....and make learning fun!! |

3Doodler -- Makey Makey -- Kendama
3 different choices to try this month! We hope to expose more activities/ideas to the kids while also letting them explore what interests them the most.
3Doodler
The trials and tribulations of the 3Doodler... The 3Doodler has been incredibly fun and frustrating for the students. The 3D pen requires the students to go slow and develop some skill before their creations can take shape.
Makey Makey
Kendama
The Kendama is a game that requires perseverance and grit to move from one "trick" to another.
Lift it! Turn it! Launch it!
They have also been learning about pulleys - the kids have been building tree houses, wishing wells, and elevators while incorporating a pulley into their creation. They are having a lot of fun exploring the many facets of pulley systems.
Little Bits
For our last lunchtime Maker Lab session of the year, students will spend four weeks exploring how to make their projects move, light up, turn, vibrate and much more with Little Bits modules. Little Bits are a great way to explore circuitry and incorporate it into a project envisioned from the ground up by the Maker. We can't wait to see what the students dream up!

Paper Challenge
What can you make using only paper? A three-dimensional work of art? A bridge that can support 5, 10, even 50 pounds? A chair you can actually sit on? Makers will explore the strengths and weaknesses of form and shape in our paper challenge.

Critter MashUp
Can a DragonWhale live in the rainforest? Under what conditions does a DolphiGerm bacteria grow? Not even the sky is the limit as Makers create unheard-of animals, give them unique habitats and sort out exactly what food these creature/monster/pets would need to survive.
